The government through Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich has declared that Kenyans who refuse to offer census information next year will risk a Ksh. 100,000 fine or a one-year jail term.
Rotich says that Kenyans have refused to offer crucial information like their number of wives to census officials and that during next year's process this will not be condoned.
“Any person who fails to provide the required information commits an offense and shall be liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year or to a fine not exceeding Ksh. 100,000 or to both such fine and imprisonment,” said Mr Rotich.
The next national census is set to commence in August 2019.
