Two suspects, one a police officer have been arrested for fraudulently using stolen identity cards to register SIM cards. DCI detectives said the officer identified as Boniface Nthenge stationed at Kitengela has been colluding with one Lucy Syombua have been using the stolen IDs to acquire loans. They are believed to be members of a syndicate that fraudulently acquired loans and other benefits from M-pesa platform.
 "Hundreds of fraudulently registered sim cards and electronic equipment believed to be used for hacking purposes have been recovered from the lady's house in Umoja- Nairobi," DCI Director George Kinoti said.
DCI boss said they have launched probes into other activities of the syndicate as detectives pursue other syndicate members who will be arrested and arraigned in court.   https://twitter.com/DCI_Kenya/status/1305418515395104768 The DCI ,however, blamed Kenyans who do not report the lose personal documents like ID cards, sim cards, phones driving licenses or laptops to police. Reporting the lose of identification documents to police and obtaining an abstract is essential not only to get police assistance in recovering the lost items but also to avoid such items being used in criminal activities. DCI said also added that reporting such cases strengthens the victims' defense in a seberio where such documents are subjected to unlawful use by the perpetrators like Nthenge and Syombua.
