Oburu Oginga has declared that he is prepared to step down as ODM party leader if his leadership becomes a source of division within the Luo community.

Speaking during an ODM rally at Kirembe Grounds in Kisumu on Sunday, Oburu urged supporters to remain united and avoid actions that could weaken the party's influence in the region. He emphasized that regional cohesion was more important than any individual leadership position.

“I do not like anything that separates our region. If it is me who is going to separate our region, I am willing to leave the position,” he told supporters.

Addressing questions surrounding his elevation to the party's top position following the death of Raila Odinga, Oburu maintained that he did not actively seek the role. According to him, the decision emerged through established party structures and was backed by senior ODM leaders, including Simba Arati and Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir.

He further urged aspiring leaders within ODM to remain patient, assuring them that leadership opportunities would arise in due course. Oburu also reaffirmed his commitment to preserving ODM's legacy, warning against actions that could undermine the party founded through years of political struggle.

Defending ODM's participation in the broad-based government arrangement, he argued that the partnership had brought benefits to the region and expressed confidence that the party would perform strongly in the next General Election.

The rally concluded with supporters reaffirming their loyalty to ODM and its leadership amid ongoing discussions about the party's future direction.
