The ODM “Linda Mwananchi” faction has stepped up its opposition to the proposed 2026 Finance Bill, accusing the Kenya Kwanza administration of excessive public spending and misplaced fiscal priorities.
Key leaders including Godfrey Osotsi, Edwin Sifuna, and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino criticised what they termed as inflated expenditure within the executive, particularly questioning State House allocations amid rising economic pressure on citizens.
Osotsi argued that government spending at State House had become excessive, contrasting it with previous administrations. Sifuna echoed the concerns, accusing the government of wasteful use of public funds while Kenyans continue to struggle with high living costs.
The leaders further urged Members of Parliament to reject the Finance Bill, warning that it would deepen the financial burden on households, especially women and children. They called for a firm parliamentary stance against the proposals, insisting that lawmakers prioritize public interest in their vote.
While some of the leaders warned of strong political accountability against MPs who support the bill, their remarks underscored growing tensions ahead of the legislative process, as debate over taxation and public spending continues to dominate the national political discourse.
