Tension and grief engulfed Utumishi Girls Academy in Gilgil on Thursday after an emotional parent interrupted Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat’s address while desperately seeking information about his missing child following the deadly dormitory fire.

In the emotional scene captured on video, the distraught parent confronted officials during the briefing, demanding immediate answers amid growing confusion over the whereabouts of some students affected by the tragedy.

The parent, overwhelmed by fear and frustration, questioned why families were still struggling to get clear information hours after the fire killed 16 learners and left dozens injured.

The incident highlighted the pain and anxiety gripping parents gathered at the school and hospitals as authorities continue accounting for all students.

Government officials, including Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen and Education PS Julius Bitok, have since visited the institution as investigations into the cause of the fire continue.

Authorities have urged parents to use the emergency hotline set up to help trace students and receive counselling support.
