The new Member of Parliament for Emurua Dikirr, David Kipsang Keter, has officially been sworn in to the National Assembly of Kenya following his election victory.

The swearing-in ceremony took place on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, as the House resumed sittings after a short recess. The MP-elect was formally introduced to the House before taking the oath of office.

Keter swore to uphold the Constitution and serve the people of Kenya, pledging fidelity to his parliamentary duties. After completing the oath, Speaker Moses Wetang’ula congratulated him and directed him to sign the official oath documents.

Following the formalities, Keter signed the documents and was ushered into the House as a full Member of Parliament. The Speaker also directed that new MPs who have not yet been assigned committees be placed without delay so they can begin legislative work.

Keter replaces the late Johanna Ngeno, who died in a plane crash in February 2026. He won the seat in the 14 May by-election on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket, securing 18,266 votes, according to results declared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

His closest challenger, Vincent Kibet Rotich of the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), garnered 10,760 votes, while other candidates trailed behind.

Keter’s entry restores full representation for Emurua Dikirr at a time when Parliament is handling key legislative business, including the Finance Bill 2026.
