SAD STORY: MyDawa abandoned a sick staff member in hospital

MD Tony Wood, CEO MyDawa
MyDawa, the multimillion shillings’ company that operates an online pharmacy has a case to answer for mistreating an employee.
Sources within the e-health firm told nyakundireport.com that a hardworking staff member was abandoned in the hospital with a bill of Sh4 million.
The person in question shall remain unnamed since he didn’t authorize this. The story has been sent by sources who want justice.
It happened that the employee was admitted at a high-level hospital in Nairobi since that is what the company’s medical insurance provisioned. He had contracted COVID-19.
At his sickbed, the CEO of MyDawa Tony Wood handed him a redundancy letter essentially sacking him.
In the middle of the same night, the Human Resources Manager of MyDawa Inviolata Shijinga called the Britam Medical Insurance department and cancelled the staff'sinsurance.
The man who had worked for MyDawa for a long time, making it profits in excess of over Sh100 million was in bed, sick, jobless and about to be seriously broke.
Sources describe Mr Wood as a ‘shortsighted, washed up racist and failed corporate executive working illegally in Kenya’.
The sources wonder how a business that is neither closing nor registering losses can turn their back on a star employee at his time of need.
Mr Wood is also said to be in the habit of using redundancy letters to short circuit the human resource procedure to fire anyone who gets into his way.
“For a company that claims to deliver to live well, it is shocking beyond belief how inhuman some people can be in the face of pandemic. The employee used all his redundancy settlements to pay his bills to the tune of Sh4 million and now he is penniless,” the sources said.
The sources added, “For MyDawa, let the public be the judge but the investors should know the animosity the CEO and the HR are into. The Immigration department should get rid of this individual as Kenya has many people who can run a company”.
The good news is that the staff in question got well.
