The Incoming Inspector General of police will have a lot to do. Many Kenyans want to feel secure as they proceed with their daily activities. Though his academic credentials are being questioned, Boinett looks like a man who can bring change in the security sector. That said, there are many things that we would want him to do and implement. I hope he will be ready to accept criticism not like his predecessor David Kimaiyo who used to block his critics on social media, intimidate journalists and harass poor Kenyans. Kimaiyo was a flop, what he did always made him a laughing stock and a shame to the office of the inspector general. After performing poorly, Kimaiyo managed to retire with a verified Twitter account. What an achievement!
Kenyans don’t expect more bulb theories, Kenyans don’t expect Boinnet to be power hungry like his predecessor. There was deafening silence when Kimaiyo asked for more powers to implement the shoot to kill order . In a nutshell, we expect an inspector who will value human rights and uphold the rule law. The incoming inspector general will be keenly monitored by Kenyans on Twitter who are now the official opposition because CORD leadership is busy seducing each other and fattening like pigs What about the image of the police? To make it clear, many Kenyans don’t like the police. The number of atrocities these men who are supposed to be our guardians have committed with impunity raises questions. Mr Boinnet should deal with all officers who have at any given time heinously championed or committed extrajudicial crimes. Well, this is up to our sleeping human rights activists to expose and shame these individuals. We have not forgotten the murder of Cheche, the police who stormed her small room and murdered her are free men. The police who shot dead a South Eastern University student with a live bullet are out there roaming maybe with a clear intention of annihilating more folks. We have not forgotten. We have not forgotten the police officers who gave a rapist a punishment of clearing grass for the crime of raping and dumping a poor girl in Busia. Lastly, Mr Boinnet’s appointment raised questions. Many blokes said that he was tribally appointed after some leaders from the Rift Valley boldly insisted that someone from their tribe must replace Kimaiyo. He has a huge task of proofing to Kenyans that he can deliver to vindicate himself . If he cant deliver then he should tell us, We the people ... before he sets foot in that office.
I cannot really oppose his appointment because of his papers but I hope this issue will be amicably resolved. Haji said these accusations are being investigated. We will follow up till they update us on this issue. Since Kenyan Vetting committees are rubberstamps…I would like to Wish the Incoming IG well as he prepares and warms up to occupy the hot seat with an objective of saving the face of the moribund office
