Queen of thieves: NHIF Board Chairperson Hannah Muriithi The National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF), the Ministry of Health and the National Treasury cannot account for over Ksh2.2 billion that was supposed to be set aside to cater for the treatment of the elderly. The over half a million beneficiaries, have complained of frustrations in their effort to access the free medical services since the launch of the ‘Inua Jamii’ cash transfer programme for the elderly in January 2018. The Ministry of Health told parliament it didn't receive the amount they had budgeted for, that instead of receiving Ksh2.2 billion, they received Ksh636 million only.
