My mother was our sole breadwinner and travelled between Kenya and Tanzania as a Mtumba seller. She also had a small coca-cola duka in Gikomba where we used to go for lunch daily as we schooled nearby and helped her attend to during the weekends. She died at Ruaraka police station after being illegally detained by one corporal Maina and Ngombe. They locked her up and beat her to death. On realizing they had killed her, the police stripped all her bloodied clothes and burnt them. They then tied a blanket around her neck and said she had hanged herself.
