Baktash Akasha Baktash Akasha, the son of a notorious drug trafficker who was sentenced to 25 years in prison three years ago, is facing robbery-with-violence charges in Mombasa.

Baktash, who was a minor at the time of his father's arrest in 2014, appeared before a Mombasa court to attend extradition proceedings.

This week, the 22-year-old had his day in court to answer to robbery-with-violence charges that could see him land in prison for the rest of his life.

Baktash appeared in court dressed in a cream-dotted T-shirt and with his face partially covered by a mask but remained calm as the charges were read out to him.

The prosecution alleged that Baktash, along with others yet to be arrested, violently robbed Mr Derrick Gikanga Wanjiku and Ms Naeem Yusuf Mohamed of their money and property, which was worth Sh134,500.

The court heard that Baktash, armed with kitchen knives and a hammer, not only robbed the individuals but also injured one of them.

They allegedly committed the offences on January 29, 2022, and January 6, 2023. The property included mobile phones, shoes, AirPods and perfume. However, Baktash distanced himself from these accusations and was released on a Sh1 million bond.
