Ikanga/Kyatune Ward MCA Cyrus Musyoka, popularly known as Sonko, is once again on the spot following fresh claims linking members of his family and close circle to theft incidents in Nairobi and its environs.
The latest claims emerged after his brother was reportedly caught on camera stealing an M-Pesa mobile phone from a shop in Githurai, Nairobi, raising fresh questions around a family that police sources now claim has attracted growing attention from investigators.
Police are reportedly looking for one Onesmus Musyoka for questioning and possible prosecution over alleged theft incidents targeting M-Pesa shops in Athi River and Mwihoko in Kiambu County.
A police source familiar with the matter claimed the younger Musyoka may have picked the behaviour from his elder brother, who is currently facing several complaints linked to theft incidents in downtown Nairobi.
According to police sources, the MCA has been mentioned in up to 19 complaints, with investigators at Kamukunji Police Station said to have reviewed security camera footage that allegedly placed him at the centre of some of the claims.
“These cases are under probe and we hope to solve them soon,” said one officer aware of the matter.
Another source claimed Musyoka is a habitual offender and alleged that he has trained a close circle of relatives and friends who are now operating in Nairobi with a mission to steal from unsuspecting members of the public.
“We understand there are up to 10 close relatives and friends who have picked up his behaviour and are terrorizing people in Nairobi. Their days are coming soon,” the source claimed.
Musyoka has previously been in court over separate allegations involving public funds.
In 2025, he was charged before a Kitui court over allegations of forging motor vehicle documents in an attempt to defraud the Kitui County Assembly of Sh2.2 million.
The MCA faced five charges, including conspiracy to commit a felony, obtaining registration of a motor vehicle by false pretences and forgery of a valuation report, all contrary to the Penal Code.
He was also accused of uttering false documents and making a false claim as a public official, offences listed under sections 353 and 100 as read with section 102A of the Penal Code.
According to the prosecution, Musyoka allegedly presented fraudulent motor vehicle purchase reimbursement documents with the intention of deceiving the Kitui County Assembly into paying him Sh2.2 million.
The charges followed a recorded complaint filed by Rose Kavithe Ngoima, who raised concerns over the documents presented for the MCA motor vehicle purchase reimbursement.
In 2024, Musyoka was admitted at Nairobi Hospital after he was badly beaten and injured by a mob in Nairobi.
He was rescued by officers from Kamukunji Police Station, who reportedly rushed him to hospital for treatment after finding him badly injured.
Ikanga/Kyatune Ward is in Kitui South Constituency.
