The High Court has temporarily stopped the planned auction of Nairobi’s iconic 14 Riverside Drive complex, offering a major reprieve to its owners ahead of the scheduled sale on Wednesday, May 26, 2026. The court issued stay orders to allow parties to argue issues raised over alleged irregularities in the auction process, halting the sale of the multi-billion-shilling property for now. Cape Holdings welcomed the ruling, describing it as a significant breakthrough in the long-running legal battle that has dragged on for over 15 years. The court also directed Moran Auctioneers to file responses within seven days, with the matter set for further directions on June 2. The dispute revolves around a collapsed 2010 property deal between Cape Holdings and Synergy Industrial Credit Limited involving a KSh577 million deposit for an office block within the Riverside development. The debt linked to the dispute has reportedly ballooned to more than KSh10 billion.
