Police have arrested 12 Form Three students linked to a suspected arson attack that destroyed the three-storey Owino B dormitory at Maranda High School on Sunday evening. The students were arrested while allegedly attempting to flee before being detained at Bondo Police Station as investigations continue. According to Bondo Sub-County Police Commandant Robert Aboki, CCTV footage from petrol stations in Bondo reportedly captured six students buying fuel believed to have been used in the attack. Investigators claim the students raised Ksh2,500 during a sports event, sneaked out to buy petrol, then smuggled it back into the school through a fence before hiding it in a dustbin. Police say the suspects later used mattresses and blankets soaked in petrol to start the fire before escaping. Masks and clothing were later recovered in school toilets. Following rising tensions between Form Three and Form Four students, the school administration sent all Form Three students home indefinitely to prevent possible unrest.
