Form Three students at Maranda High School have been sent home indefinitely after a suspected arson attack destroyed part of a dormitory on Sunday evening, triggering tension within the institution. School authorities ordered the partial closure on Monday to prevent possible clashes between Form Three and Form Four students following the incident. Police said 12 students were arrested in connection with the fire at the Owino “B” dormitory, with CCTV footage allegedly showing some of them purchasing petrol used in the attack. Investigators claim the students planned the incident during a weekend sports event before smuggling fuel back into the school compound and setting mattresses and blankets on fire. The suspects are being held as detectives continue investigations, with police indicating they will be arraigned in court on arson-related charges.
