Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has officially declared Wednesday, May 27, 2026, a public holiday to mark Eid-ul-Adha. In a Gazette notice issued on Monday, May 25, the Interior Ministry announced that the holiday would allow Muslims across the country to celebrate one of Islam’s most significant religious festivals. Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is observed by Muslims worldwide after the annual Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. The date of the celebration is determined by the Islamic lunar calendar and moon sighting, which is why the government issues annual announcements confirming the official holiday date. The declaration means Kenyans will enjoy a midweek public holiday on Wednesday.
