Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s lawyer Njeri Maina told a three-judge bench on Thursday that the impeachment process was fundamentally flawed due to violations of constitutional requirements on public participation, arguing that the exercise was conducted in a manner that excluded meaningful input from citizens.

She further submitted that the National Assembly issued the gazette notice and conducted public participation on the same day without adequate notice or civic education, and that reliance on shortened parliamentary timelines breached Articles 10 and 118 of the Constitution governing public involvement in legislative processes.
