Opposition Tensions Rise After Gachagua Claims Secret Nairobi Deal With Kalonzo
The war of words escalated after Gachagua told supporters that he had reached an understanding with Kalonzo. He claimed the deal guaranteed DCP full control of almost all major elective seats in Nairobi in 2027. Kalonzo responded in public during a Thanksgiving event in Machakos County. He called the claims deliberate misinformation designed to divide the coalition during a crucial political moment.
Gachagua had implied that Wiper would withdraw from the Nairobi gubernatorial race, senatorial race, and 16 out of 17 parliamentary seats. He went further and claimed that DCP and Wiper would share 75 out of 85 MCA positions. The statements triggered intense debate across the coalition. Many saw the remarks as a direct attempt by the former deputy president to gain early influence inside Nairobi ahead of 2027.
Kalonzo, however, did not hold back. He told the crowd that the government and its allies were busy creating lies to portray the United Opposition as weak and divided. He insisted that Wiper had not abandoned any seat and had no agreement to give Gachagua dominance in the capital.

Kalonzo called for calm and urged leaders to avoid reckless statements that mislead the public. He emphasised that decisions about Nairobi seats will be made jointly and transparently. He stressed that the united opposition will maintain fairness, not backdoor deals.
