Embu Man Who Had Previously Been Pardoned By The President Reconvicted For The Cultivation Of Marijuana
Newsroom Updated 2 min read
CAPTION: Adsalam Walkman A prisoner from Embu town who had previously been released following a presidential pardon was on Monday given a fresh 6 year sentence for commiting the same crime again.
Adsalam Walkman had been in prison since 2013 and was serving a 10-year jail term but was freed in January after a presidential pardon.
Walkman was found guilty of cultivating 60 stems of marijuana by Embu Principal Magistrate Samuel Mutai.
The 28 year old had asked the court to give him two sentences six years ago when he was first convicted, arguing that if he were to serve the two terms, then the police shouldn't arrest him again for the repeat offense.
He also threatened to continue his illegal cultivation of marijuana once he was released from prison.
On the 8th of February, barely a month after his release, he was arrested again for the same offense at his home at Kevote village in Embu North where he was shot twice; on the leg and the chest after he pulled out a machete and resisted arrest.
On Monday he pleaded guilty to both the cultivation of marijuana and resisting arrest and as a result, he was given a five and one year sentence respectively.
A regretful Adsalam vowed not to repeat the offence again following the serious injuries he had sustained from the injuries.
