On March 2020, the Kenyan Premier League was postponed due to the country's first confirmed case of Covid-19.
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Nick Mwendwa announced on Wednesday that the federation is working on finding partnerships to support players, coaches, referees, and football stakeholders during the coronavirus pandemic.
According to Mwendwa, FKF is in talks with the Ministry of Sports and other stakeholders on the way forward.
"We have been in consultation with government, FIFA, and partners, and it is for this reason that we have asked for details from our KPL, NSL, Division One and Women Premier League clubs," Mwendwa stated.
He added, "We don’t have these resources yet, neither have we received commitment, but we remain optimistic that we will get a positive response," said Mwendwa.
FKF is also discussing support for lower-tier league clubs, which have been negatively affected by the virus.
President Uhuru Kenyatta had earlier promised to use the Sport, Arts and Social Development Fund to cushion all the athletes from the ravages of the pandemic.
On Wednesday, President Uhuru said the Government was working out on modalities to help sportsmen and women.
Uhuru’s statement came barely two weeks after he directed the Ministry of Sports to set aside Sh100 million to cushion local athletes from the effects of Covid-19.
