On April 18, 2020, a star-studded concert dubbed Together At Home was held to raise funds for the global Covid-19 fight. The event, organized by Global Citizen, featured a diverse cast of artists, including Kenyan Hollywood star Lupita Nyong'o.

Ms. Nyong'o, an Academy Award winner, joined forces with other African celebrities like Sho Madjozi, Burna Boy, Cassper Nyovest, and Black Coffee, as well as international artists Lady Gaga, Stevie Wonder, and the Rolling Stones.

Together, they raised a staggering $128 million (approximately Sh13.6 billion) for coronavirus response efforts. The funds will be used to support developing countries, which are disproportionately affected by the pandemic.

Ms. Nyong'o pleaded for support to these communities, stating, 'We must remain vigilant and make sure that all communities in Africa and around the world have access to life-saving testing, protective supplies and treatment.'

Global Citizen announced that the funds will be allocated as follows: $55.1 million (approximately Sh5.89 billion) to the Covid-19 Solidarity Response Fund and $72.8 million (approximately Sh7.78 billion) to local and regional responders.

The donations will also support the vaccine development alliance Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) and UNICEF.

As the world continues to grapple with the pandemic, it is heartening to see celebrities like Lupita Nyong'o using their platforms to raise awareness and funds for those in need.
