On April 22, 2020, Kenya confirmed seven more positive cases of coronavirus, bringing the total positive cases to 303.

Out of the seven new cases, six were from Mombasa County, while one was from Nairobi County.

According to Health CS Mutahi Kagwe, the new cases were part of the mass testing exercise launched by the government.

Mr. Kagwe echoed the warnings by the World Health Organization (WHO) that despite the low numbers in Africa, there were chances that the number would escalate in the coming days.

He cited examples of Kawangware and the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), which had seen an escalation in the number of positive cases of coronavirus despite previously having only one case.

The government of Kenya has deployed over 25,000 testing kits across the country as part of the mass testing exercise.

As of April 22, 2020, the government's target was 250,000 samples by the end of June.
