On 21st April, Ruth Matete, a gospel singer, was grilled by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations' (DCI) homicide unit for several hours in connection with the death of her husband, Pastor Belovedjohn Apewajoye.
This was not the first time Ms Matete had interacted with the DCI detectives, as she had recorded a statement with them on 17th April.
The DCI's homicide unit is working alongside the Athi River police to establish the facts surrounding Pastor Apewajoye's death.
On 17th April, officers from the DCI questioned Ms Matete for six hours at their headquarters, after unclear circumstances surrounded the death of her late husband.
Ms Matete's lawyer, Robert Odanga, stated that the hospital where Pastor Apewajoye was treated, Bellevue South Hospital, has a case to answer, despite distancing themselves from any previous incidents of neglecting their patients.
Bellevue South Hospital released a statement on 17th April, claiming to have had the best outcomes in managing burn cases, but this has not alleviated concerns about their handling of Pastor Apewajoye's case.
The Nigerian Embassy in Nairobi has stated that they will rely on the findings from the DCI to determine the actual cause of Mr Apewajoye's demise.
A postmortem examination, initially scheduled for 21st April, has been postponed to 23rd April.
