As of Monday evening, 429 persons from the conventional cargo operations at the Port of Mombasa had been tested for Covid-19, with five of them testing positive for the virus.
The five individuals have been placed under treatment at the Coast General Provincial Hospital, with immediate contact tracing continuing.
The mass testing exercise, which began on Wednesday last week, has so far tested 229 persons, including the five who tested positive.
According to the KPA management, the week-long exercise has prioritized personnel from cargo operations and security officers, before extending the exercise to container terminus engineers, marine engineers, and operators.
Meanwhile, traders ferrying imported cars from the Port of Mombasa to Uganda and Tanzania will be forced to look for alternative means of bulk transport to conduct their operations, following a police ban on the movement of vehicle units in and out of the county.
