Agoro Sare: Village School That Defied Odds to Produce Kenya's 2nd Best KCSE Candidate

On a day when the top ten slots in the 2020 KCSE results were dominated by prestigious national schools such as Alliance, Mangu, and Starehe, a small village school in Oyugis, Homa Bay County, made history by producing Kenya's 2nd best KCSE candidate. Agoro Sare High School, which was established in 1958, has been a consistent performer in KCSE exams, with over a quarter of its students posting results of B+ and above in 2019.

The school's success can be attributed to 'proper teamwork and coordination between teachers and students,' according to the school principal. The school has maintained an impressive mean score of at least eight points since 2018, with its consistency over the years resulting in gradual improvements.

Former Nairobi Governor, Evans Kidero, and the late veteran journalist Juma Aluoch are among the notable alumni of the school. Cabinet Secretary Education, Prof. George Magoha, however, termed the school as a 'non-entity' despite its impressive performance.

"The second one is from a non-entity called Agoro Sare which is somewhere, the mean 87.173, the name is Wesonga Allan Udoma," Prof. Magoha said.

Despite being a small village school, Agoro Sare has been making waves in the education sector. The school's motto 'Labour To Success' is a testament to its commitment to excellence. With its consistent performance in KCSE exams, Agoro Sare is changing the status quo and proving that even small village schools can produce top performers.
