Published on April 21, 2020, Ethic's song 'Soko' has been at the center of controversy after the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) condemned its lyrics.
The group's recent video release sparked widespread criticism, with many expressing their disappointment on social media.
Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) boss Ezekiel Mutua weighed in on the matter, calling out the group's lyrics as 'despicable immorality' that should be condemned by all right-thinking people.
'Do these perverted producers have children? How does a sane adult try to normalize rape, prostitution or paedophilia in the name of Gengetone hits? The video 'Soko' by Ethic is despicable immorality that should be condemned by all right-thinking people.'
Following the backlash, Ethic released a statement apologizing for unintentionally promoting paedophilia culture.
'We owe an apology to our fans who have been nothing but supportive throughout our journey. It has come to our attention that our recently released Soko video has unintentionally promoted paedophilic culture. We are therefore sending out sincere apologies to all our fans and viewers at large.'
The group has since taken down the video and promised to create and release better content in the future.
This is not the first time Ethic has faced criticism for their music. Last year, they were roasted on social media for their song 'Tarimbo', which many believed was promoting rape.
