Published on January 13, 2020, a recent shift in plans at Away has led to the company's former CEO, Jen Rubio's co-founder, returning to the company as co-chief executive.

According to an interview, the former CEO, Stephanie Korey, had initially planned to step aside after a transition period, with Stuart Haselden taking over as the sole chief executive. However, after a Verge article was published, Korey decided to remain at the company, albeit with a new title.

"I honestly thought that people didn’t care that much about the inner workings of Away," Korey said in an interview. "Who is C.E.O. and who is executive chairman — that wasn’t something that, at a private company that’s less than four years old that sells travel products, I just didn’t think would be news and people would care."

"I honestly thought that people didn’t care that much about the inner workings of Away," Korey said in an interview. "Who is C.E.O. and who is executive chairman — that wasn’t something that, at a private company that’s less than four years old that sells travel products, I just didn’t think would be news and people would care." Haselden defended Korey, stating that her original decision to step aside was "very selfless in trying to defuse the firestorm of social media." However, he acknowledged that the article created a misconception that Korey was exiting the business, which was never the intent. Under the new arrangement, Korey will remain executive chairman, while Haselden will take on the role of co-chief executive. The company's president and chief brand officer, Jen Rubio, will continue in her position.
