On January 13, 2020, Alshabaab militants launched a deadly attack in Kamuthe area, Garissa County, killing three non-local teachers.
The attack occurred just days after the same group killed four pupils from Saretho Primary School in Garissa and injured three others.
According to reports, the militants were also targeting a police camp in the region but were unsuccessful in their attempts.
North Eastern Regional Commander Paul Soi stated that authorities are still investigating the incident, gathering more information before releasing further details.
‘We have boots on the ground. We want to establish what transpired before we can relay more information regarding the same,’ he said.
The attack is a significant blow to the North-Eastern region, which is already experiencing an acute teacher shortage due to frequent terror attacks.
