On January 8, 2020, a disturbing incident unfolded in Kisumu County, Kenya, where a woman and her four children were rushed to the hospital in serious condition after an alleged murder-suicide attempt.
The woman, who had recently moved to a new home in Awasi, Kisumu County, following a marital dispute, locked herself and the children inside the house and stabbed them repeatedly using a kitchen knife.
Neighbours who heard the children's screams rushed to the scene, administered First Aid, and rescued the children before rushing them to Awasi Catholic Dispensary. The victims were later transferred to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) for further treatment.
The woman, who sustained serious injuries on her abdomen and neck, is said to have been motivated by domestic wrangles, including her husband's decision to marry another wife.
