Published on June 24, 2021, Haki, a Kenyan ride-hailing app, has emerged as a game-changer in the industry by focusing on the needs of its drivers.

Founded by Newton Khamasi, chairman of Haki Sacco, Purity Majale, director of marketing, and CEO Caleb Kapten, the app aims to avoid the mistakes of its international peers by prioritizing drivers and customers.

According to Khamasi, most foreign-based ride-hailing apps are customer-centric, neglecting the drivers who are the backbone of the industry. This has led to disgruntled drivers who feel excluded from the decision-making process, resulting in poor service delivery to users.

"It's ironic that an app can block a driver from using the platform because a passenger cancelled a ride. How is that supposed to affect a driver struggling to make ends meet?" Khamasi posed.

Haki's model is centered around taking care of its key players and providing a one-stop-shop for all their needs. The app allows drivers to save money instantly and directly to their Haki Sacco account after every trip.

Additionally, drivers have access to short loans for quick fixes, long-term loans for development goals, and dividends are paid to them at the end of the year depending on their share capital.

With Haki, drivers adhere to a code of conduct that they must abide by, ensuring a smooth and efficient service delivery.
