On December 14th, 2018, the High Court issued a court order requiring the Immigration Department to facilitate the return of Dr. Miguna Miguna to Kenya. The order was issued in response to a lawsuit filed by Miguna, who was deported to Canada in March 2018.

According to a statement by Immigration Director-General Alexander Muteshi, the Directorate has been informed that Dr. Miguna Miguna will travel to Kenya on Tuesday, January 7, 2020. The Directorate will facilitate Dr. Miguna's entry into Kenya.

Meanwhile, the High Court has issued orders restraining government officials from interfering with Miguna's return to the country.

As reported earlier, the High Court ruled in favor of Miguna in a lawsuit filed against the state for violating his human rights. The court awarded Miguna Ksh 7 million for the violation and also ordered the state to return his passport, which was unlawfully confiscated.

The court also awarded Miguna a further Ksh 207, 000 for damages to his house. Justice Chacha Mwita said the damages issued to Miguna will act as a deterrent to similar violations of the law.
