Kenya's Covid-19 Positivity Rate at 8.5% as 218 Test Positive

On June 21, 2021, the Ministry of Health reported 218 new Covid-19 cases from a sample size of 2,577 tested in the last 24 hours, bringing the positivity rate to 8.5%.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe stated that the cases comprised 206 Kenyans and 12 foreigners, with 117 males and 101 females. The youngest case was a seven-month-old baby, while the oldest was 85 years old.

The total confirmed positive cases now stand at 179,293, with cumulative tests conducted reaching 1,907,096.

The cases were distributed across various counties, with Nairobi recording 119 cases, followed by Siaya with 26 cases, and Kisii with 20 cases.

Sub-county distribution showed that in Nairobi, the cases were spread across several areas, including Kibra, Westlands, and Dagoretti North.

Of the 218 cases, 261 patients have recovered from the disease, with 167 recovering from the Home-Based and Isolation Care program and 94 from various health facilities.

Sadly, 5 patients have succumbed to the disease, with one death occurring in the last 24 hours and four reported after conducting Facility Record Audits in April and June.

As of the reporting date, a total of 1,074 patients were admitted in various health facilities, while 5,638 patients were under Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

Additionally, 1,187,663 vaccines had been administered across the country, with 995,570 first doses and 192,093 second doses.
