Published on January 3, 2020, the Ministry of Health in Kenya is seeking to recruit 4,000 medical interns to improve service delivery and equip graduates with the necessary practical skills.

The recruitment drive is part of the government's efforts to implement the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and enhance healthcare services in the 47 counties.

According to an advertisement by the Public Service Commission, the interns will be deployed in the National Referral Health Facilities for a period of 12 months and will receive a monthly stipend and a certificate upon completion of the internship programme.

The interns will be paid a monthly stipend at a rate to be determined by the Public Service Commission, which will vary depending on their qualifications - degree, diploma, or certificate holders.

The government is prioritizing four key service delivery areas as part of UHC, including community health service, and will also enhance the provision of medicine and medical supplies.
