As the year comes to a close, the DPP Noordin Haji and DCI boss George Kinoti are facing scrutiny over their performance in tackling corruption. The duo, who were hailed as champions of the fight against corruption when they took office, have failed to deliver on their promises.

Despite their efforts to shake the country with high-profile arrests, including the infamous 'Kamata Kamata' Friday arrests, they have yet to record any major convictions in the cases they have taken to court. In fact, many of the cases are still pending, and the duo has suffered humiliating defeats in some of the cases they have pursued.

One such case was the attempted murder charges against four individuals accused of importing fertiliser containing mercury. The DPP withdrew the charges after both sides reached a deal, and the consignment was released to the market despite concerns over its safety.

The DPP and the accused agreed that the charges would be dropped, and they would not pursue wrongful prosecution. The case highlighted the challenges faced by the DPP and the DCI in delivering justice.

Another case that drew attention was the trial of former Kenya Power boss Ben Chumo and his successor Ken Tarus, who are among 14 senior managers charged over a Sh400 million tender. The case started with allegations that key documents related to the tender were missing, but the procurement documents were later retrieved from different files.
