Dele Alli's fortunes have changed dramatically since Jose Mourinho took over as Tottenham Hotspur's manager. The midfielder-turned-forward has scored five goals and provided three assists in his last eight matches, a remarkable turnaround from his previous form.

After a purple patch in the 2016/17 season, where he scored 18 Premier League goals, Alli struggled with injuries and scored only three goals in 30 games prior to Mourinho's appointment. However, under the Portuguese coach, he has rediscovered his golden touch.

“I go in the direction that Dele Alli was exhausted from work. I love players who are exhausted from that,” Mourinho said after Spurs moved up to fifth place.

One of the key factors behind Alli's resurgence has been Mourinho's decision to deploy him in the final third of the pitch, rather than having him toil away in a central midfield role. This change in strategy has allowed Alli to play in advanced areas, especially when Harry Kane drops deep.

With Kane and Son Heung-min up front, Alli has been given a free role, which has given him a shot in the arm. He has scored exquisite goals, including a deft lob against Manchester United and a volley against Bournemouth.

As Tottenham battle with Chelsea for the final Champions League spot, they will count on Alli to provide the attacking impetus. With South Korean international Son still suspended, Alli's role will be crucial in the coming matches.

Tottenham next visit bottom side Norwich City on Saturday.
