On December 25, 2019, Al Duhail announced the signing of Mario Mandzukic, a Croatia international striker, on a free transfer from Italian Serie A champions Juventus.
Mandzukic, 33, had been linked to a move to Premier League side Manchester United but chose to continue his career in Qatar's top flight.
He scored 44 goals in 162 games for Juventus after joining them from Spain's Atletico Madrid in 2014, but did not feature in the current campaign under manager Maurizio Sarri.
Before joining Juventus, Mandzukic played for German sides Bayern Munich and Wolfsburg, and helped Croatia reach the World Cup final in Russia last year, where they lost to France 4-2.
Al Duhail, led by coach Rui Faria, are currently top of the Qatari top flight with 29 points after 11 consecutive wins.
