It's time to face the music. The festive season may be over, but the harsh reality of Kenya's economic and political woes remains. We, the people, have a significant role to play in this mess.
As we reflect on the past year, it's clear that our choices have consequences. We elected leaders who have destroyed our nation, and now we're left to pick up the pieces.
King Kaka's song, 'Wajinga Nyinyi,' was meant to excoriate political leaders, but many of us misinterpreted it as a call to action against our rivals. The truth is, we're the ones who have been fooled.
Our leaders have looted our resources, warmedongered, and mobilized ethnic groups against each other. We've chosen poverty, corruption, misrule, economic collapse, crime, and dysfunctional social systems.
It's time to take responsibility for our actions. We put Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto in power, and now we're suffering the consequences.
As we celebrate Christmas and the New Year, let's not forget that our leaders didn't shoot their way into power. We gave them the opportunity, and now we're paying the price.
The Uhuru-Raila Building Bridges Initiative may promise a new Kenya, but it's likely to set the stage for fresh political infighting.
Let's pass the goat ribs and the GlenRware Special, but let's not forget the real issues that plague our nation.
