On December 23, 2019, Machakos County Governor Alfred Mutua emphasized the need for the government to punish those responsible for the 2007 Kiambaa church arson attack that claimed the lives of over 300 people.

Speaking on K24's Punchline show, Mutua stated that leaders with blood on their hands should not enjoy freedom and should be immediately arrested and convicted.

'I still remember the Kiambaa church nightmares and it is a shame if those who were responsible for that are allowed to walk free simply because the Hague cases collapsed,' he told Ann Kiguta.

Mutua also clarified that he had accused Raila's people, not Raila himself, for carrying out the treacherous crimes against humanity during the 2007/2008 post-election violence.

'I said it before that it was Raila's people and not Raila himself who were responsible for the violence. I have also met Raila over the same matter,' the Governor explained.
