Manchester United's 2-0 loss at Watford on Sunday was their most chastening defeat of the season, with the team enduring a subdued and slow first half.
David De Gea's howler in the 50th minute allowed Ismaila Sarr to score, and four minutes later, Aaron Wan-Bissaka's foul on Sarr led to a penalty that Troy Deeney converted.
Despite the team's struggles, Solskjaer refused to criticize De Gea, saying that mistakes happen in football and that the team trains to prevent them.
"It was a mistake, it happens in football and it is what we train for every day to make sure they don't happen again," Solskjaer said.
"David has been very good lately, it is just one of those things that happen," he added.
Watford's win was a significant boost to their survival hopes, and Solskjaer acknowledged that his team did not deserve the result.
"You have to earn every point on the pitch and today we didn't deserve that," he said.
Manchester United will look to bounce back from this defeat in their next two games.
