China has taken its trade dispute with Australia to the World Trade Organization, filing a lawsuit on June 24, 2021, to challenge Australia's anti-dumping measures on Chinese exports.
The lawsuit targets Chinese goods such as train wheels, wind turbines, and stainless steel sinks, which Australia has imposed tariffs on since 2019.
China's commerce ministry spokesman, Gao Feng, stated that the lawsuit aims to 'safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies' and called on Australia to correct its 'wrong practices'.
Australia's Trade Minister, Dan Tehan, responded by saying that the country will 'vigorously defend the duties that we have put in place'.
The trade tensions between the two countries have been escalating in recent months, with China imposing tariffs of up to 218 percent on Australian wines and Australia lodging a separate protest at the WTO over tariffs on Australian barley.
