On December 18, 2019, a Dar es Salaam court heard that Tanzanian journalist Erick Kabendera's plea bargain negotiations with the prosecution were still ongoing.

According to Kabendera's lawyer, Jebra Kambole, the defence team had been directed to inform the court about the progress of the plea bargaining talks between the DPP's office and the defence side.

Mr. Kambole told the Kisutu principal resident magistrate, Janeth Mtega, that the talks were still ongoing, and the defence would keep the court informed on the progress of the negotiations.

Earlier, State Attorney Wankyo Simon told the court that the investigation on Mr. Kabendera's case was ongoing.

Mr. Kabendera was arrested in late July 2019 after police questioned his citizenship.

He was later charged with money laundering, tax evasion, and involvement in organised crime, all non-bailable offences.

His case has been adjourned five times, with the latest adjournment set for January 2, 2020.
