On December 18, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta commended Sub-County schools in Kenya for their improved performance in the 2019 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination.
According to the President, the enhanced government investment in the education sector has contributed to this improvement, which also supports the goal of ensuring 100 percent transition from primary to secondary school education.
President Kenyatta made these remarks at State House, Nairobi, after being briefed on the 2019 KCSE results by Education CS Prof George Magoha.
The President expressed his appreciation for the hard work of teachers across the country, particularly in Sub-County schools, who have dedicated their time to provide students with the best possible education, resulting in top students in the country.
President Kenyatta emphasized that his government will continue to ensure that children receive quality education regardless of their location, citing the example of students who scored less than 200 marks at KCPE achieving excellent results.
He also encouraged teachers and parents to support their children, especially those in Sub-County day schools, which are the backbone of the 100 percent transition program, as they absorb over 70 percent of learners.
During the briefing, Prof Magoha noted that 127 special needs learners excelled in the 2019 KCSE and are expected to join universities.
Present at the briefing were Education PS Belio Kipsang, Teachers Service Commission CEO Nancy Macharia, Acting KNEC Chief Executive Officer Mercy Karogo, and KNEC Chairman John Onsati among others.
