On Monday, December 16, 2019, Governor Alfred Mutua of Machakos County recorded a statement at Kilimani Police station, alleging that Deputy President William Ruto, Majority Leader Aden Duale, and Senator Kipchumba Murkomen threatened him.
According to Mutua, the trio allegedly made the threats during a meeting at State House on Wednesday, December 11, 2019, when they welcomed Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley.
During the meeting, Mutua claimed that Ruto held his hand tightly and told him, 'I have heard you have been attacking me, I will deal with you.'
Mutua further alleged that Duale promised to deal with him for criticizing their team, while Murkomen was also present during the meeting.
Despite initial hesitation, Mutua decided to record a statement after consulting with his family and friends, citing concerns for his safety.
As the governor of Machakos County, Mutua has been a vocal critic of Deputy President Ruto, particularly over his visits to churches across the country.
