Published on December 13, 2019, Harambee Starlets' impressive performance in the CECAFA Women's Championship and the CAF 2020 Olympic qualifiers has earned them a significant rise in the FIFA rankings.
Kenya's national women's football team, Harambee Starlets, has made a remarkable leap in the FIFA rankings, climbing 10 positions to 133rd in the world.
The team's impressive run in the CECAFA Women's Championship, where they won the title without conceding a goal and thrashing all teams, was a major factor in their rise.
Starlets' heroics in the CAF 2020 Olympic qualifiers, where they eliminated traditional African powerhouses Ghana from the Olympic qualifiers, also contributed to their rise in the rankings.
However, their loss to Zambia in the Olympic qualifiers had a significant impact on Ghana, which plummeted 10 places in the rankings and now finds itself 60th in the world.
Head coach David Ouma has been nominated for the CAF's Women Coach of the Year Award, and the team has been nominated in the Women's National Team of the Year together with Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, South Africa, and Zambia.
