According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the Africa aviation market is poised for significant growth, with a projected increase of 200 million passengers to reach over 356 million by 2038.

Speaking at the 2019 Routes Africa forum, Raphael Kuuchi, Vice President, Africa, IATA, highlighted the continent's aviation industry's projected growth, which represents a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of about 4.6% of the continent's total market size.

Kenya's aviation market is expected to experience double passenger growth, resulting in an additional 11.3 million passenger journeys, over 449,000 more jobs, and a $11.3 billion (KSh1.1 trillion) boost to GDP by 2038.

Kenya is among the top three aviation markets in Africa where growth is forecast to be strongest over the next two decades, according to IATA.

The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has been implementing an ambitious strategy to expand and improve the capacity of Kenya's airports, including the remodelling of the terminal at JKIA, which has increased the airport's annual capacity to over 11.9 million passengers annually.

Other airport upgrades and infrastructural works are currently ongoing at Kisumu International Airport, Mombasa International Airport, and the Eldoret International Airport.
