On December 6, 2019, Aston Villa suffered a 1-2 loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, with Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham scoring for the home team, while Mohamed Trezeguet Hassan scored for Villa.

After the match, Mateo Kovacic attempted to shake hands with Aston Villa assistant manager John Terry, but the former Chelsea skipper left a mark on the Croatian as he pressed his hand tightly.

Kovacic grimaced in pain as he shook hands with Terry, who held out his hand as an apology as he walked off.

Chelsea uploaded a video of the incident on Instagram, tagging Terry and captioning it, 'Easy on the handshake, John!'

Terry responded with a laughing face emoji and flexing arm emoji, tagging Kovacic and writing, 'Sorry mate.'
