On June 25, 2021, Jeremy Wahome navigated by Victor Okundi drove a Ford Fiesta through the Oserian section during the WRC Safari Rally Kenya 2021 in Naivasha.
Fast forward to the KCB Machakos Rally today at Lisa Farm in Machakos County, the trio is upbeat about their chances of finishing on the podium.
Jeremy Wahome, a 22-year-old British Formula 3 driver who turned to rallying three months ago, is eager to create ripples in the circuit.
“My dream is to win the fifth round of the KNRC series. But I also want to use it to gain experience as I keep developing my skills. Mine is more of a long-term plan,” Wahome told Standard Sports on Friday evening.
Wahome is looking to build on his performance in the WRC Safari Rally in Naivasha, where he finished 16th overall, and the ARC Rally of Tanzania, where he improved his ranking to fifth.
McRae Kimathi, 27, is also eyeing a podium finish in Machakos, having previously competed in the rally in 2015 but finishing Did Not Finish.
“I’m hoping to rewrite this history six years later,” Kimathi said, adding that he is now more comfortable with his Ford Fiesta R3, which was flown from the manufacturer base in Finland by the Federation of International Automobile (FIA).
Hamza Anwar, 22, who finished tenth overall in Machakos in 2018, is also a strong contender for the podium.
