On December 1, 2019, The Standard published a story about Ronny Rono, a 30-year-old bodybuilder who suffered severe body disfigurement after a synthol injection. Tragically, Rono has passed away.
Rono's health complications began in April 2017, when he developed a small swelling in his right arm. The condition worsened over time, spreading to his left hand and causing his pectoris muscles to become grossly enlarged, as indicated by an MRI analysis conducted by Dr. W. Otieno.
Despite being admitted to Green View Hospital for two weeks and receiving treatment from a private doctor in Kericho, Rono's condition continued to deteriorate. His family spokesperson, Hilda Chepkemoi, revealed that Rono had been in and out of hospitals since his story was first published, with well-wishers contributing to his medical expenses.
According to Chepkemoi, Rono's body was swollen, and his arms were wasting away. He rarely got out of bed and struggled to look in the mirror without breaking down. Rono had denied using synthol injections in previous interviews, but admitted to being an alcoholic during his bodybuilding days.
His aunt, Mary Mabeche, a former Kericho nominated MCA, expressed her devastation at Rono's passing. 'We had hope that his condition could be reversed, it is unfortunate he had to die,' she said.
The family will hold a fundraising to offset the hospital bills and cater for the funeral on December 7 at Chemosot Village in Bureti Constituency. Well-wishers can contribute through Pay Bill no 763424.
