On a fateful Saturday, October 2, 2021, a couple's lives came to a tragic end when they jumped from the fifth floor of their residential apartment in Mtwapa, Kilifi County.
According to neighbours, Lucy Nyokabi, who had rented the apartment, had been cohabiting with a man believed to be her lover for three months.
Witnesses claim that the man, identified by his nickname 'Rastaman', was the first to jump off the balcony, prompting Nyokabi to follow him in a desperate bid to be reunited.
"She panicked and stated shouting 'I am following you', but her husband had already hit the ground. He was already laying naked on the ground," a neighbour recounted.
Despite the neighbours' claims that the couple never engaged in fights, officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) found evidence of a confrontation, including a broken table and a pool of blood in one of the rooms.
The families of the deceased are still reeling from the shock, and police are yet to determine where the couple had been working.
