On November 30, 2019, Safaricom announced a partnership with the Postal Corporation of Kenya (PCK) to launch digital mailboxes, dubbed M-Posta.
The service allows Safaricom subscribers to register for digital mailboxes by dialling 23419# and use their mobile numbers as addresses.
Subscribers will receive alerts on their phones whenever they receive a parcel and can pick it up at PCK counters.
The annual subscription fee for M-Posta is Sh300, significantly cheaper than PCK's Sh2,027 for individual letter boxes.
This partnership aims to increase Kenyans' participation in e-commerce and make doorstep deliveries more accessible.
ICT Secretary Joe Mucheru praised the deal, saying it will bring the country closer to a platform that delivers goods at doorsteps.
“At the touch of a button, M-Post provides anyone in the country with a virtual post office box and can easily receive parcels and letters,” Mucheru said.
PCK chief executive Dan Kagwe added that the partnership will boost the country's goal of bringing over 50 percent of the population under e-commerce in under five years.
